OUR PASTOR & HIS WIFE

Dean & Charlene Ralls

Lead Pastor & Children's Leader

The lead pastor of Velocity Church is Dean Ralls. He and his wife, Charlene, married after graduating from Southeastern Bible College in 1992. He served as a youth pastor in Alabama, North Carolina, and Virginia, as senior associate pastor in Hampton, and a lead pastor in York County for the last nine years.

Dean is an approachable, relational, encouraging, and compassionate leader. He loves caring for people and reaching the lost. Dean has followed in his family's footsteps and has been associated with ministry throughout his life.  He is sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit and tackles practical and controversial topics relevant to current events with biblically based teaching/preaching.

Dean and Charlene have two sons and one daughter-in-law. They live in York County along with their family dog (Coco).

More About Pastor Dean:

Pastor Dean loves meeting new people whether it's while prayer walking in his neighborhood or riding his mountain bike on long trails. He likes playing board games, corn hole, tennis, and ping pong (he will even play a round of golf although he is a terrible golfer).  Watching reality TV shows like Survivor, Gold Rush, Restaurant Impossible are enjoyable in his spare time.  He likes to listen to podcasts and read books on ministry, leadership, and business.

More About Charlene:

Charlene likes to go on adventures. She enjoys going on bike rides, playing board games, going on walks, shopping for deals, and reading novels. She loves the beach and being outdoors (but she hates cold weather and mosquitos).

She has taught elementary school for 20 years. Currently she is a reading interventionist at an elementary school in Hampton.

Charlene leads VKids which is the children's ministry at Velocity.

OUR HISTORY

WHEN DID VELOCITY BEGIN?

In 2013, Pastor Dean & Charlene Ralls founded Velocity Church with a small group of family and friends. We started meeting in the Coventry Clubhouse in York County. In 2014, we needed a larger space for children so we moved to Coventry Elementary School in York County. In 2015, we had the opportunity to acquire an actual church space so we started meeting in the Meyers Building in York County. In 2021, we needed more space for our growing church and acquired a lease for a building that could host over 150 people. We were blessed by a newly renovated 5,000 square foot facility and a $200,000.00 renovation. We held our grand opening in September 2021.

We are currently located on a highly visible, easily accessible area to those living in or near Route 17 in York County. Click here for directions.

WHY THE NAME, 'VELOCITY'?

The reason we named it Velocity is that we believe that when the Holy Spirtit comes upon a person he or she will experience a real life change. The Holy Spirit will not only transform you but will change everyone and everything around you (Acts 1:8).

WHY YORK COUNTY?

Some may ask "Why York County"? Velocity has the potential to minister to those who live locally, serve in the military, and impact the lives of people around the world.  York county is

You are welcome at Velocity

the 5th largest populated area in the Commonwealth of Virginia with more than 180,000 people living within a 5-mile radius of the church. It is a growing area with approximately 3% projected growth increase in the next 5 years. Additionally, it is one of the top tourist destinations along the East Coast and home to one of the largest concentrations of military personnel in the United States. Finally, it is an economically stable community thanks to high tech firms such as Langley Research Center, Jefferson Labs, NASA and the Newport News Ship Building (Huntington Ingalls Industries).

OUR CORE VALUES

Church in Yorktown VA

Velocity Church is a community of believers. What does the word community mean? We believe that together in fellowship we grow closer to God and to one another. The Bible speaks about how iron sharpens iron. This is why it is so important to have consistent fellowship with other believers.

Velocity Church strives to be a church without walls. We invite anyone to come and experience Jesus. He calls us to go outside the walls to reach the lost and the broken in our community. It is there that the lost will be found. Velocity Church makes an effort to be like the church from the book of Acts to see our city changed by reaching the lost and making disciples.

Velocity Church highly values relationships with one another. We look to grow through fellowship and ultimately growing closer to God. We value the word of God and the leadership of the Holy Spirit. We look to extend grace to all of the lost and broken, and lead those with no hope to the hope of Jesus Christ.

HELPING PEOPLE CONNECT RELATIONALLY AND GROW SPIRITUALLY.
